Frequently Asked Questions

The Commencement Ceremony for the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing, the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the T.H. Chan School of Medicine will take place on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at noon, at Coughlin Field at Worcester State University, 486 Chandler Street, Worcester, rain or shine. No Commencement activities will take place on the Medical School campus.

Tickets are required, and graduates may invite up to 6 guests to help celebrate this occasion. All graduates will be sent a personalized promo code that they will need to share with the people they would like to invite. Each guest must registrar and answer the COVID19 questionnaire.

Parking for the Commencement ceremony will be free and in various lots on the Worcester State Campus. Please refer to the Worcester State University campus map for specific information.

Commencement, which will be held on the athletic field, will open to all guests at 10:00 am.

Guests are strongly encouraged to make their way through security no later than 11:30 am.

The Ceremony will begin at noon.

Guests must scan their electronic tickets at specified gates.

Guests who have not been scanned by 11:45 am may be asked to remain in place until after the students, faculty and stage party have entered the stadium.

To facilitate the screening process, guests are urged to refrain from taking bags into the venue.

Food is not allowed in the venue.

Seating for handicapped guests and three companions can be reserved in advance by contacting the Commencement staff person in your school. There will be a separate secured entrance exclusively for accessible seating. Three additional tickets are allowed to accompany each accessible seating ticket.

Under the direction of the Worcester State Police Department and the UMass Chan Department of Public Safety, there will be security around the perimeter of the stadium.

Backpacks, briefcases, large bags, and wrapped gifts will not be allowed into the venue. Handbags, purses, and camera bags will be allowed but may be subject to inspection prior to entry. 

Staff at all Commencement venues will have the authority to prohibit any item deemed to be a security risk, and all items, including unattended backpacks or bags, at any location on the campus, may be subject to inspection or removal without notice by members of the Department of Public Safety.

Additionally, for the comfort and enjoyment of all our guests, please observe the following restrictions:

• No artificial noisemakers, air horns, or megaphones
• No poles, banners, large signs, flags, laser pointers, or incendiary devices
• No promotional items with commercial slogans or identification
• No alcohol
• No pets in the venue
• These policies are subject to change without notice.

There is no formal dress code. This event is rain or shine. In the event of in climate weather, please dress accordingly.

Professional photographers will take pictures at the Commencement Ceremony. Due to the configuration of the platform, guests are asked to remain seated and not approach the stage to take photographs.

This includes individual diploma pictures and candids.
