Hematopathology Fellowship
Fellowship Description
The Department of Pathology at the UMass Chan Medical School offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship program in hematopathology with its clinical partner, UMass Memorial Health Care. The Department of Pathology provides hematopathology consultation services to Central Massachusetts. UMass Memorial Health Care is the only site for the stem cell transplant program in Central Massachusetts. Approximately 1,600 bone marrows, 300 lymph node specimens and 2,500 diagnostic flow cytometry cases are examined annually. The program is designed to provide the trainee a broad exposure to all aspects of diagnostic hematopathology, including bone marrow and lymph node pathology, peripheral blood and body fluid examination, general hematology and coagulation, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics. Fellow Eligibility:
- · All applicants MUST pass Step 3 of USMLE prior to their date of hire.
- · International Medical School graduates must hold a valid ECFMG certificate.
- · Applicants must be board certified/eligible for certification in anatomic pathology (AP), clinical pathology (CP), or anatomic pathology and clinical pathology (AP/CP)
- · Acceptance is contingent on obtaining a Massachusetts medical license by start date of fellowship.

Timeline for the 2027-2028 Hematopathology Fellowship Match:
· January 2026: Programs start interviews
· February 2026: Match opens for registration to programs and applicants
· March 11, 2026: Ranking opens
· April 15, 2026: Rank order list certification deadline
· April 29, 2026: Match Day
· July 1, 2027: Start of Fellowship
