Research Environment
Space & Facilities: Designed with Collaboration in Mind
MCCB occupies space on the 4th, 5th, and 6th floors in the Aaron Lazare Medical Research Building (LRB), a 340,000 sq. ft. research building that opened in 2002. Even after more than 20 years of occupancy, our laboratories remain state-of-the-art.
The LRB lab space is organized in a contiguous open-space configuration spanning the entire length of the floor, which fosters interactions between researchers from different groups and results in a highly collaborative and intellectual environment.
The open-space configuration—with separate adjunct alcoves, procedure/environmental/dark rooms, and linear equipment corridors to accommodate large and/or shared equipment items—also optimizes the space available for individual laboratories and maximizes the efficiency of the bays for research activities.
Shared Equipment & Resources
The department is well equipped with a wide range of shared equipment, and new equipment is continually being added, greatly enhancing the research programs of MCCB faculty. Members of MCCB labs also have full access to the UMass Chan Research Core Facilities, which are shared resources available to all internal investigators for research enhancement. The facilities offer a wide range of services to the research community including cutting-edge technologies, high-end instrumentation and technical support for basic, translational and clinical research.
