Education
Overview
The diverse and collaborative scientific environment in MCCB makes the department an exceptional training ground for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, with our faculty providing opportunities in fundamental molecular biology, cell biology and genetics, as well as cancer biology. Graduate students and postdoctoral researchers receive personalized training and mentorship under their faculty advisor, and are additionally supported by centralized professional development and career planning resources offered by UMass Chan’s Center for Biomedical Career Development and Office of Postdoctoral Scholars.
To complement these activities, MCCB offers a range of educational enrichment activities that expose students and postdocs to the depth and breadth of biomedical research, and provide regular opportunities to present and discuss their work with other investigators in the department and at UMass Chan. These enrichment activities include an in-house seminar series; an invited-speaker seminar series that attracts world-class researchers; specialized, focus-group meetings and data clubs; and, for cancer researchers, an institution-wide cancer-based research retreat.
The strength of MCCB’s training, mentorship and educational enrichment activities is evidenced by the success and accomplishments of our students and postdoctoral researchers.
