Ongoing ScienceLIVE Events
2022–Present School Year in Partnership with Worcester Public Middle Schools
- Presented 359 virtual or in-person classroom visits for 7,267 students with 115 volunteers from the UMass Chan community
- Provided 5,793 experiential learning kits to 206 classrooms
- Completed Q&A and career panels for 4,491 students, with 95 of our volunteers.
2022–Present Mentor in Service Days with Worcester Technical High School
- 132 Worcester high school students helped 22 ScienceLIVE volunteers create 1400+ kits for Worcester middle schoolers to do experiments in their classrooms while discussing STEM careers, the college adjustment, time management and more!
2022–Present Partnership with Girls, Inc Eureka! Program
- In partnership with UMass Chan's SACNAS Chapter 9th-12th grade young women and girls did a hands-on activity and discussed STEM careers with 45 of our volunteers.
- During the Eureka Jr! summer camp for girls in 4th-6th grade, 73 students had three visits from 12 of our volunteers to do fun experiential learning activities.
2021-Present Massachusetts STEM Week Participants
2021–Present Emma RNA Saves the Day Coloring Book & Infographic Poster
- Developed Emma RNA Saves the Day coloring book to explain the science of the mRNA vaccines for COVID-19 for parents and children.
- Translated into 9 languages and distributed over 14,000 copies and 33,000 free downloads on 5 continents, in 67 countries and 2 US territories.
- Sent 50 infographic posters to middle school classrooms, medical offices, and libraries to explain the science of the COVID-19 vaccines and dispel myths surrounding the vaccine. See COVID-19 Vaccines: How they work and why they are safe

2025 Family STEM Night in Partnership with Boys & Girls Club of Worcester
- In partnership with SACNAS, hands-on science fun was had with 125 individuals of all ages.
2024, 2025 Geek is Glam in Partnership with Girl Scouts of Central Massachusetts
- 750 4th-8th grade girls participated in hands-on activities and explored STEM careers with 11 volunteers.
2023–2024 What the Heck is Biotech? in Partnership with LabCentral Ignite
- Presented 2 career exploration workshops for 63 participants.
2023 Microscope Donation to Worcester Public Schools in Partnership with the Moderna Foundation
- Donated over 80 microscopes to science classrooms to the WPS middle schools.
- Provided 23 WPS teachers with professional development training to use the new microscopes.
2023 Lab Coat Donation to Lake View Elementary Students
- In collaboration with the Outreach Office, 28 UMass Chan "Scientist-in-Training" lab coats were presented to 6th grade students at Lake View Elementary School in celebration of their achievement of the highest MCAS STE scores.
2021 Touch Tomorrow Festival
- Participated in the free STEM festival, Touch Tomorrow (April 2022) where 19 of our volunteers performed ~1000 experiments with students of all ages.
2020–2021 Virtual Classroom Visits in Partnership with Worcester Public Middle Schools
- Presented 70 virtual classroom visits for 1800 students, with 26 of volunteers from the UMass Chan community.
