Core Faculty


John P. Broach, MD, MPH, MBA, FACEP

Dr. Broach completed his residency in Emergency Medicine and fellowship in Disaster Medicine and Emergency Management at UMass Chan Medical School and has served as the Division Director for EMS and Disaster Medicine since 2018. He also serves as a Medical Officer on the Federal DMAT MA-2 and has extensive experience with disaster response planning and deployment. He currently serves as the Region 2 EMS Medical Director and has published extensively on topics related to both EMS and Disaster Medicine.


Stacy Weisberg, MD, MPH, FACEP, FAEMS

Dr. Weisberg is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and board certified in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services. She graduated with her MD from New Jersey Medical School and did her residency at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. She came here to do her EMS/ Disaster Medicine Fellowship and has been faculty ever since. She is also a Professor of Emergency Medicine and the Head of Laurel House at UMass Chan Medical School.


Laurel O'Connor, MD, MSc, FACEP, FAEMS

Dr. O'Connor is an emergency physician and health services researcher at UMass Chan Medical School with expertise in prehospital care and community paramedicine. Her career goal is to improve patient care delivery by developing and studying complementary mobile and digital solutions that bring healthcare into the community.


Timothy Boardman, MD

Dr. Boardman received his MD from UMass Medical School in 2016, completed residency training in Emergency Medicine through the Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 2020, and completed fellowship training in Emergency Medical Services at the UMass Chan Medical School in 2021. He joined the UMass Chan faculty group and EMS core faculty with the rank of Assistant Professor after completion of his fellowship and assumed the role of EMS Fellowship Director in 2024. His clinical interests include Helicopter EMS, Critical Care Transport, and quality improvement.  


Andrew Milsten, MD, MS, FACEP

Dr. Milsten received his MD from George Washington University and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Lincoln Medical Center in New York City. He completed an EMS Fellowship in addition to a Masters of Science in Emergency Health Services at the University of Maryland. He has been active as a clinician and researcher since 2000 at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. His research has primarily focused on mass gathering medicine while he was the director for special events & Ravens stadium fan operations. He joined the UMass Emergency Medicine Program and faculty in 2009 and is the fellowship director of Disaster Medicine and Emergency Management. Dr. Milsten coordinates and runs the NDLSF training programs at UMass, specifically BDLS and ADLS. He was also instrumental in organizing and founding the New England Society of Disaster Medicine (NESDM).

Michael Weiner, MD

Dr. Weiner completed medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine. He subsequently came to UMass for Emergency Medicine Residency, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fellowship, and Disaster Medicine fellowship. As an nocturnist EM attending physician as well as an EMS/DM physician, he is the medical director for multiple local fire departments, is the Course Director for Disaster Day, is a telehealth provider with the Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) program, is involved in all levels of medical education, and is involved with many other projects.

Thomas Leith, MD - EMS

Dr. Leith is an EM physician and EMS fellow. He attended University of Michigan Medical School and completed residency at UMass Chan Medical School. His clinical interests are EMS, Community Paramedicine, Public Health, Resource-limited Settings, & Wilderness Medicine.

Kevin Mishan, DO - Disaster Medicine

Dr. Mishan is an EM physician and Disaster Medicine fellow. He attended medical school at New York Institute of Technology and residency at St. Barnabas Hospital. His clinical interests are Disaster Medicine, Event Medicine, Mass Casualty Incidents, Education, Administration / Leadership, & Informatics.

Zilmarie Diaz Pacheco, MD - Disaster Medicine

Dr. Pacheco is an EM physician and Disaster Medicine fellow. 


 Ryan Silva, MD- EMS

 

 Dr. Silva is an EM physician and EMS fellow. He attended University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed residency at UMass Chan Medical School. His clinical interests are EMS, Event Medicine, & Medical Education.
