Acknowledgement and Co-Authorship Guidelines

Whenever you present data generated by the Metabolomics Core, please acknowledge us!  This includes talks, poster presentations, grant applications, and manuscripts.  Citing the data, including us in your acknowledgement slide or the following statement in your acknowledgments section will suffice:

We thank the UMass Chan Medical School Metabolomics Core Facility (RRID:SCR_027036) for running metabolomics samples and data analysis.

In some cases, a Metabolomics Core scientist will go above and beyond what is expected and/or contribute intellectually to your project, warranting co-authorship on a manuscript. Fee-for-service data generation does not necessarily preclude co-authorships. Our scientists have years of experience in the field of metabolomics and deserve to be valued as scientists as much as any graduate student, postdoc, or research associate in your lab. The Association for Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) offers this helpful guidance on when it’s appropriate to include a Core Scientist on your manuscript.
