August Resident Spotlight: Venus Huang, MD

In this month’s Resident Spotlight, we feature Venus Huang, MD, a third-year categorical Internal Medicine Resident. We recently caught up with Dr. Huang to learn more about her clinical and research interests, what makes UMass Chan a great place for residency, and why Christmas is her favorite holiday.

Hometown?

Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Port Arthur, TX

What are your clinical and research interests?
I love cardiology, especially congenital heart disease. Studying CHD provides deep insights into embryology, particularly how complex organs like the heart form from a simple tube.

Are you involved in any other groups or activities at UMass Chan that you’d like to highlight?
I am a part of the Peer Mentorship Buddy Program. It creates a sense of community and belonging, encouraging collaboration and reducing isolation. It is essential in residency.

What makes UMass Chan a great place for your residency?
Amazing residents, fellows, and attendings who help you learn!

Favorite hobbies?
I love CrossFit (got to work off those calories) and puppies.

Favorite thing to do in Worcester/Worcester area?
Eat!!!

What is your go-to board game?
My favorite game is Monopoly since I can see everyone’s true nature and how competitive they are.

Favorite holiday?
Christmas, because who doesn't love Christmas! I love holidays where you can eat and drink with good (or bad) company.

Favorite guilty pleasure snack?
A family-sized bag of jalapeno chips all to myself.
