Zachary Binder, MD - Blackstone House Mentor
Dr. Zachary Binder grew up in Newton, MA, with his parents and younger sister. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Before entering medical school, Zack worked as a middle school science teacher and earned a teaching certificate from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. He went on to attend Tufts University School of Medicine, completed his pediatric residency at NYU/Bellevue, and pursued fellowships in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center and Emergency Ultrasound at Brown University.
Zack is currently a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at UMass Medical Center and serves as the Director of Point-of-Care Ultrasound for the Department of Pediatrics. He is also an Assistant Professor at UMass Chan Medical School. In addition to his role as a Learning Community Mentor, he contributes to medical education as the Director of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Curriculum, as a longitudinal clerkship (LCL) mentor for the pediatrics clerkship, and as a core small group leader.
Dr. Binder’s research focuses on integrating ultrasound-guided nerve blocks into clinical practice. He is active in the international point-of-care ultrasound community, serving on the Executive Board of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Point-of-Care Ultrasound Network and as co-Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Nerve Block Registry.
Zack lives in Sudbury, MA, with his wife, son, and daughter. He is passionate about softball and plays competitively in his spare time. Although traveling has become more challenging with young children, it remains a shared passion for him and his wife.
