Schedules

The academic year is divided into 13 four-week blocks. Blocks mostly follow an X+Y scheduling model. The training is front-loaded, and the majority of inpatient service is assigned to first-year fellows. Senior fellows are scheduled to these services for one week at a time, during which the first-year fellow is assigned to outpatient clinics. All assignments are scheduled such that there is equity amongst the level of training, and all fellows are expected to complete a set number of rotations, calls, weekends, etc., prior to graduation.

Fellows can take up to 20 days of vacation per academic year. We follow institutional, ACGME, and ABIM policies with regard to any leave (medical, family, parental, etc.) and extension of training.

Over the three-year training period, one-third a fellow’s time is dedicated to inpatient consults and service. The remainder of the time is available for the pursuit of scholarly activities and career-oriented clinical and learning experiences.
