Collaboratives

A HEALL Collaborative is a group of individuals united by a shared interest in advancing Health Sciences or Biomedical Education, often focusing on new or priority areas such as simulation or competency-based education. These groups foster interdisciplinary teamwork by bringing together current and prospective HEALL members to identify emerging topics, key priorities, or innovative ideas that can be implemented across more than one school. Collaboratives are designed to drive meaningful educational and research initiatives and strengthen the academic community by addressing institutional needs in targeted educational areas.

Collaboratives are typically formed when a group meets, discusses their ideas, and co-develops a proposal that aligns with their goals and the institution’s broader educational mission. Proposals are submitted in response to calls for new initiatives, and selection is based on the group’s demonstration of how they meet an institutional need. Once chosen, the collaborative refines its proposal for development and integration into educational programs, with guidance and support from HEALL leaders or Steering Committee members. The work is primarily based at UMass Chan Medical School but can extend to regional campuses, and the collaborative’s duration is determined by the scope and objectives of the project. With successful implementation, there may be opportunities for continued collaboration and the development of educational scholarship.
